Re: How simple would be too simple?

Some view the strategic game as an end to itself and have little taste for the tactical battles, while others see the strategic game as a means for producing battles that have some context, but aren't all that terribly interested in the minutiae of empire-building. ...I guess that the thing is that...

Re: How simple would be too simple?

Just a small point - someone said somewhere that the rules for Cosmic/Ultra became so complex to reach a more realistic level. Come on guys this is science fiction! 'realism' doesn't exist yet. How do a lot of these games start? "You have been appointed Emperor/God/Dictator/Leader, the people ...

Re: rules pdf

Craig, if the reason for the question is searching, you can use Adobe Reader to search thru multiple files at the same time. I use this feature often. Just have Reader search thru all of the files in the folder where you've placed all of the Ultra files.

Re: Starting ships with X

Oops I was in a hurry and mistyped. It is CLe with Icb that makes it worth it. The extra half speed for the CL hull works well here. Using a CA hull increases the cost and maintenance and makes it hard to compete with the X system. No prob, Jeff. I never remember that half-speed thing. On my copy o...

Re: Starting ships with X

Even though FTs with X require 15% maintenance, the lower hull costs for FT hulls helps here, both in construction costs and future maintenance. The main reason I can see this matter is that survey ships are a fairly large expense and it matters in aggregate. FT1s are better for later upgrade to Xb...

Re: Starting ships with X

Matt, IIRC, aren't FT's that carry X required to pay warship level maintenance rather than FT level maintenance, i.e. 15% vs. 7.5%? (See Table L7.02) That would seem to counteract some of the concerns about FT's carrying X. One issue that I'd have with FT's carrying X relates to crew, though it migh...

Re: Starfire Vassal Module

Looks nice, Larry. Some suggestions though... A. I'd suggest a bit more color to the Gas Giant. At the moment, it's a bit too blue and looks to much like a Type F planet, though it wouldn't be too bad for a Type I planet. (Even so, it'd be good to try to create plenty of differentiation even between...

Re: How simple would be too simple?

Remember, Matt, this IS the "How Simple ... " thread, not a "How Complex ..." thread. it shouldn't be any surprise that posters here would be thinking in terms of playing Starfire as a p&p game. Not everyone has your ... passion for Complexity Uber Alles. I understand that. ...
