Re: home made fusion reactors

The web is really bringing back the concept of amateur scientists again. Now anyone with time and cash can do many things that it used to take universities or corporations lots of cash to do. And for people who need cash there are a lot of VC and Angel investors if you can put together a business pl...

Re: China to launch space station in 2011

I'd like to ask your opinion on one thing then: if the government is so inefficient, then how did it manage to get to the moon the first time? By throwing $25 billion ($170 billion in 2005 dollars) at the problem and still didn't have sustainability overall. In addition at that time we didn't have ...

Re: China to launch space station in 2011

Yup. There is that. But I doubt the current administration will do anything even if China puts a nuke in orbit... What a load of partisan BS. There's a load of difference between stoping ineffective government funded development and encouraging private space development and defending the nation fro...

Re: Some system generation questions.

Language is C++ with wxWidgets (library for visual apps). Output is just plain to edit box - not pretty (I'll probably need to put some more linebraks in there... things got a little crowded since I added moon generation), but it allows for quick copy-paste into notepad :D That and it's so much mor...

Re: "RP Rate" RPs & starting a research project

To make it easier I'd go with the reduced rate. But Matt might have a different ruling.

Re: Back-Linking Spreadsheets... or not?

It may be one thing to go wrong but for me it's also a way to see that things are working normally and errors don't creep in. For example, if we are sharing a backwards linked file and one of our cell data gets corrupted it will show in the errors related to the back-linked files. Unlikely that both...

Re: Construction Yards

While it might seem dangerous to place your shipyards in one complex remember that you can build a number of SS modules to protect it and rotate it to keep it protected for some time. If you spread out your SY you have to build and maintain a number of SS complexes. Having made a number of strikes o...

Re: Planetary Bombardment

I think Club has a point. The cost to actually occupy the world isn't the only cost. The military cost in controlling the system is something hard to quantify but space battles are rarely cheap.

You probably can calculate it as some constant based on the military percentage of the income of NPR.

Re: Coming Soon: New Starfire Spreadsheet. Soon is NOW™

Well congrats to dwargon for doing what I found to be really difficult. He got the Marvin spreadsheets to work in Open Office. Cralis recently put them on the download page. These are descendants of the Elite spreadsheets. My excel sheets are on the download page Dwargon's link is here http://myweb....
