Why? Because it's educational AND it's about space.

The Kerbal Space Program, or KSP, is a game that literally has you doing rocket science. Yes, yes, probably 90% of our forum visitors probably own the game... but I have finally taken a look at it and have decided it's worth talking about.

It's one thing to build empires in space, but it's an entirely different thing to understand the real concepts of early space exploration. KSP accomplishes that.

Or as Randall Munroe of xkcd.com points out, it's how you begin to understand how space exploration works today. http://xkcd.com/1356/

Even better, the latest version of KSP has a campaign mode where you start off with only the very basics and must perform scientific experiments in the atmosphere, space, on the surface and then use that science to engineer better parts and equipment so you can push outwards to the moons, other planets, and mostly recently, asteroids.

Anyway, I figure as a sub-forum in the "space and science" forum we can happily talk about our successes and failures in KSP while we plan galactic domination in the main Starfire forums. And if you haven't seen KSP, this is a not-so-subtle pointer that you should.
