Printing from Shipyard

Postby SDTroll on Tue 09 Mar 2010 08:02

Sorry if this is somewhere in the forums or belongs somewhere else, but I couldn't find it.

The website says you can print your ships from the Shipyard program, but I can't figure out how to do it. What do I have to do to print out my fleet?

Thanks,

Hmmm I've not used the current version of shipyard. I'll see if I can find out for you.

assuming we're using the same program - you can't directly. What you do is go the the report menu, and [save this ship RPT/BTL to clipboard], paste into a word processor, and print from there.

The RPT contains some info about cost and uses an abbreviated ship line, while the BTL option doesn't include some of the economic stuff, but has the full ship line - the latter is far easier to use when playing tactical games, of course.
TAG: As I understand it, he sought to avoid turning one-point-six trillion Terran sophonts into undead, war-mongering super-soldiers.
Captain Tagon: It it wrong for me to think that would be pretty cool to watch?

Is there any way to easily print out a whole fleet, or do you have to work ship by ship?

What I usually do is use the BTL format and just add the lines I need for the ships.

I think there was a way to specify a number of each ship but it was easier for me to just make the changes in the word processor. Or actually spreadsheet tab in my turn orders.

OK, sorry if this is a foolish question, but how do you open or work with a BTL or RPT file? I've never worked with them before and my computer doesn't like them at all.

When it comes to printing out ships for my battles, what I do is go to the design software and either hit F9 which pastes a full report into the clipboard. I then paste it into a word document or text file. F9 gives me this:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Target -class DD 30 HS/30 TS
[3] SSSAAAAHQaQaLax4(Ia)(Ia)(Ia)(Ia) [4/2]
Trg:1 PV=19 Cost= 376/56.4 SL1 {ULTRA}
18 HTK Sx3 Ax4 Lax4 Hx1
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now, if I wanted to get the battle output, Shift-F9 gives me this below:

1 Target -- DD Trg:1 30 HS/30 TS
[3] SSSAAAAHQaQaLaLaLaLa(Ia)(Ia)(Ia)(Ia) [4/2]
18 HTK Sx3 Ax4 Lax4 Hx1
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Myself, I maniuplate the pasted data once it's in a word document, so if I had 3 Target-Class DDs I'd set it up to look somethign like this:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Target -class DD 30 HS/30 TS

Sucker Bet
[3] SSSAAAAHQaQaLax4(Ia)(Ia)(Ia)(Ia) [4/2] BG

Round Circles
[3] SSSAAAAHQaQaLax4(Ia)(Ia)(Ia)(Ia) [4/2] BG

Lack of Gravitas
[3] SSSAAAAHQaQaLax4(Ia)(Ia)(Ia)(Ia) [4/2] BG+1

Trg:1 PV=19 Cost= 376/56.4 SL1 {ULTRA}
18 HTK Sx3 Ax4 Lax4 Hx1
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

The file is actually plain-text, readable in Notepad, Wordpad, or your favorite word processing software (MS Word, OO Writer, etc).

Can't be all bad, Lack of Gravitas seems to be doing well. :)
