OFFICIAL RULING: Rapid Fire Salvoes

Postby Cralis on Thu 18 Feb 2010 13:19

After discussion, the SDS has made an official ruling on how rapid fire salvoes work.

ALL salvoes are fired "as soon as possible" and it is not possible to hold back the fire of weapons with lower ROF to fire with the later salvoes of weapons with higher ROF. Shots cannot be "saved" from low ROF weapons until later salvoes.

The original question was whether an ROF 1 missile launcher can fire the missile with the second salvo of a ROF 2 missile launcher. The answer is no.

So an ROF 1 launcher and the first salvo of an ROF 2 launcher are treated as all being part of one big salvo?
That seems reasonable to me.

Does this extend all the way down the ROF chain? In other words, given a datagroup that has ROF 1, 2, 3 launchers in it, all the first shots are the first salvo (ending ROF1 participation), all the second shots fall to the second salvo (ending the ROF2 participation), and the third salvo only contains the last shot by the ROF3 launchers.

You are both correct.

Say you have ROF 1, ROF 2, and ROF 3 launchers. Your salvoes will look like:

Salvo 1: ROF 1 + ROF 2 + ROF 3
Salvo 2: ROF 2 + ROF 3
Salvo 3: ROF 3

Bill, the original question was whether that ROF 1 could fire with salvo 2 or salvo 3. The answer is NO. It simply makes the process too complex when you are firing full datagroups of large ships.

Perhaps someday in ComplexComputerizedStarfire we can do something like that :-)
