STARFIRE is an original game of starship combat and interstellar empire building. Originally written by Steve Cole in 1976, the game system was expanded in the 1980's and 1990's and based on the books by David Weber. In 2000 GALACTIC STARFIRE was released, which has evolved into the current ULTRA STARFIRE edition.
STARFIRE's unique combat system allows players to build their own fleets of starships and annihilate those fleets in only a few hours play time. Fans of 4X (eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, eXterminate) games will enjoy that STARFIRE has a campaign system that allows you to build an alien empire, control every facet of its development, and attempt to conquer a galaxy full of players and/or non-players alike.
Take a look at our Introduction to STARFIRE for a more detailed look at the STARFIRE game system, check out the Downloads Page for free files, or head over to our Ordering Page if you want to see what products are currently available.
I have added Xveer's ULTRA STARFIRE Excel Spreadsheets to the Downloads Page. Thanks Xveers!
To start off the promised month of December, I have installed a brand-new BETA version of the Downloads Page! The downloads section is now database-driven, and you can search for files by keyword and/or rules version, sorted by name, most downloaded, or rules version.
If you find any bugs, please post on the announcement and let us know so we can fix them! Enjoy!
I want to thank Josh Threet and Cody Herb, fellow students at Western Oregon University for their participation in this project for our database class. I also thank Larry for his patience and help with PHP...since he is the PHP Master among the admins here on this site.
I have made an announcement regarding the current state of affairs and the plan for the next six weeks at http://www.starfiredesign.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=223.
This should explain the current status and when I return tomorrow I will respond to any comments or questions. Don't fret! It's all good!
This week the forum will have a little downtime on Thursday night as we will do a database backup and then add at least one new add-on, maybe more.
In addition, this Friday there will be an additional update accompanied by a small announcement, and discussion on the community forums!
The SDS is considering a new idea for a small gaming project on Facebook to generate interest in the STARFIRE gaming system. However, we are trying to determine what kind of game would be the best. We want to know what you think!
