The Admiral's Challenge is a miniature campaign system designed to focus on constructing ships and sending them into battle. The actual campaign game is played on a hex map, moving the units around quickly on the map to produce battles to be played using ULTRA Starfire, Elite for GSF, Galactic Starfire, or 3rd Edition Starfire.
The best part of the Admiral's Challenge is that the rules are short, combining information from various Strategic Starfire games to create wargame style gameplay for campaigning. The game can support an unlimited number of players on an unlimited size map, lasting as short as a few days and as long as you want. For short games only 1-4 players and a standard system map corner (10 hexes by 10 hexes) is recommended.
DESIGNER'S NOTES:
Particular differences from ISF/SM#2 rules are:
- no shipyards
- simple R&D system
- greatly simplified capture of systems and handling of populations
- dozens of contact points with other empires allowing a wide open map and
far more locations to defend. This prevents buildups around two or three
WPs and lets mobility rule.
- Much smaller battles with each having less overall importance (just like
a wargame of ground combat)
- New Graded Leader rules including Admirals, Generals, Diplomat, and
Governors. Plus, the leaders can have specializations! PS: those rules
should work with SM#2 also.
- Optional FTL variant!
- New intelligence rules specific for this game
Starfire: Admiral's Challenge is currently available only in electronic format. Requires a copy of Tactical Starfire rules to play (any edition).
