Procyon: Good point. I'll probably move it between the two Ka+.

Vandervecken/JoeBuckeye: That's all valid (I'd actually forgotten that Xa could count towards a system body survey). That said, one thing I want to avoid is optimizing everything, which to my mind is undesirable metagaming in a game such as this. Hence, a hefty reliance on the dice (actually the RANDBETWEEN function in Excel) to decide things. Yes, it's often less than optimal, but name me one real-life nation that runs everything in an optimal fashion. The races in this campaign will probably never do things in an optimal fashion, and to me that is a good thing.

Finished ship design (I think), and bought the initial war, survey, and freighter fleets. Going to name all the ships tonight, but I'm beat after running around most of the day so I'm going to wait until tomorrow night to try to get Turn 0 and Turn 1 up.

Nice start to the Fiction. I hope your solo game is enjoyable and yet a bit challenging (not boring).

Thanks. Didn't really mean to write that much, but sat down to start and it just flowed.

Sometimes that's just how it works. Very nice job.

Want to make sure I have this straight before I process the first month for the Church.

Population growth is the first thing that happens every month. Calculating income is next. This means that available income for a given turn on a given planet (when planning spending) is equal to [(current pop + new pop)*income modifier], rather than just based on current pop.

I ask because in the PBEM game with eoghantodd and my thinking on this campaign so far, I have always assumed it was based off population at the start of the turn, prior to growth. I'm in section J, for those wondering.

J2 Strategic Turn Sequence, to be sure Olivertheorem.

But yes, those two items are, in fact, the first time items in the Sequence of Play; and in that order.

Pathfinder-class Exploration Vessel
Build/Maint cost: 76.9/11.5
EX / 7 HS / 7 HTK
[2] S Ica Xa Qa Ica [6] (AC)

The Church's small but essential explorers, the Pathfinders were designed to swarm new systems to learn everything possible about them as fast as possible

and

Move spacecraft/convoys (PLEASE check this. I'm pretty sure it works per the rules, but not 100% sure. the EX have 6 strategic movement and the ES only has 3.)

Olivertheorem,

Max speed for Commercial Engined EX is still 4 Tactical and 4 Strategic, so it still only needs 1 (Ica) to max both. I mentioned this earlier when you put this ship out, yet in your provisional Turn 1 still say that your EX explorer moves speed 6.

Officially you could have that second engine room per ...

C1.02.7 - Extra Engine Rooms
A ship may mount any number of engine rooms. Any additional engine rooms — above the number needed to produce the maximum movement point allowance of the ship — are all ‘inactive’ and cannot be activated without shutting down an active engine room.

But it would still be 4 Tactical and 4 Strategic for movement.
